Revenger (2018) is an action film that tells the story of a former Interpol agent named Kim Yul who was exiled to a remote island after being sentenced to death for killing Carlos Khun, the leader of a criminal syndicate. Kim Yul’s only goal in life was to seek revenge and kill Khun. In this film, Kim Yul’s journey as a father and husband seeking vengeance for the death of his family is the main plotline. Fans of pure action will enjoy the satisfying fight scenes.

Synopsis:

Kim Yul is arrested and sentenced to death for murdering Carlos Khun, the leader of the CRK criminal syndicate. The trial concluded that Kim Yul’s actions were the result of revenge for the deaths of his wife and daughter. He is then imprisoned in the AP 101 isolation cell for life. AP 101 holds prisoners from twelve different Asian countries, and in this lawless zone, Jin and her mother are chased by a group of men.

However, a stranger with his hands and mouth bound arrives to save Jin. The stranger, Kim Yul, beats up several attackers with only his feet. He reveals that he is here to seek revenge on Khun and offers to work with Jin in exchange for the information on Khun’s location.

Jin agrees, and they embark on a journey to Khun’s location. They arrive at a location where Maly, Jin’s mother, is being treated. Maly is hostile towards Kim Yul, who is responsible for impregnating her in isolation. Maly tells Kim Yul that she knows Khun’s location and orders him to leave. However, Jin decides to follow Kim Yul as she wants revenge on Khun, who killed her father.

While in their search for Khun, Jin is kidnapped by Khun’s followers. Kim Yul and Maly then start their search for Jin, and Kim fights several attackers, only to be hit by a poisoned arrow. Jin urges Maly to help him, but Kim Yul orders Jin to leave him behind. Maly reluctantly agrees, and Jin eventually reaches Khun’s location.

Despite a simple plot and lack of tension, the action scenes in the movie hold up to expectation. However, Kim Yul’s characterization falls flat, and Bruce Khan’s portrayal lacks emotional depth. The film ultimately ends with questions—whether Kim Yul succeeds in his revenge, and if Jin ultimately forgives or forgets about him.

Conclusion:

Revenger (2018) is recommended for action fans who enjoy exciting fight scenes with little attention to plotlines. Although the movie lacks tension and emotional depth, it delivers what it promises and is worth a watch at least once. Overall, the film provides an entertaining journey of a man seeking revenge for the death of his family.
