Niantic Launches Peridot, a Combination of Pokémon GO, Tamagotchi, and Nintendogs

Niantic, the creators of Pokémon GO, have announced the launch of their newest mobile game, Peridot, which fuses elements of Tamagotchi and Nintendogs with the popular augmented reality game. The game is set for release on May 9, and pre-registration is currently available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Gamers who sign up and play before May 23, 2023, will receive an exclusive party hat attribute as a bonus.

Peridot has been in development for over three and a half years and represents Niantic’s latest attempt to capture the magic of the 2016 summer launch of Pokémon GO. According to IGN, each Peridot creature has unique traits that affect its color and features, with an unlimited number of possible combinations promised by the developer.

While the ultimate aim of the game is to care for and play with your Peridot, players can also assume the role of a Keeper, breeding and discovering as many different types of Peridot as possible. “However, when it comes to day-to-day life, remember that a Keeper’s primary job is to ensure their Dots are happy, healthy, and loved,” says Niantic. “Feed your baby Dots, play with them, and go on adventures. With enough attention and effort, they will grow into teenagers and then into adults that can hatch new generations of Dots. It’s the circle of life, except you can keep track of all your Dots and never have to say goodbye.”

Niantic announced Peridot in April 2022, seemingly using the ups and downs of the Pokémon GO years to create a better experience from the outset. The company’s hopes for Peridot are understandably high, with an eye on recapturing some of the success seen after Pokémon GO’s 2016 release. However, the company has struggled in recent years, closing Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Catan: World Explorers in 2021 and more recently laying off around 90 employees while canceling four more projects.

In conclusion, Peridot is set to shake up the mobile gaming world once it is released. The hybrid between the well-known Pokémon GO and the crowd-favorite Tamagotchi and Nintendogs games is a refreshing take on the augmented reality genre. Players can expect to build strong bonds with their bots as they nurture them from infancy to adulthood. For those who are excited to join the adventure, pre-register now and get a chance to collect the exclusive party hat attribute.
