Nami’s Compass and its Significance in One Piece

Nami is one of the strong characters in the One Piece story, raised by Bell Mère, a former soldier. Her upbringing by a former soldier has made Nami and her adopted sister Nojiko, strong characters. Nami was found by Bell Mère as a baby amidst the chaos of war. Despite being in a difficult and lonely situation, when carried by Nojiko, Nami still showed laughter, even though she might have been tired and hungry.

However, what changed the atmosphere for Nami and made her forget about her fatigue and hunger was when she saw Genzo’s windmill. The windmill may have had special meaning for Nami or could have been a symbol of hope and happiness in her life before she became entangled in the conflict of war. Interestingly, the spinning windmill has a resemblance to the Log Pose, a tool that provides the directional compass in One Piece’s world.

In the One Piece story, the author, Eiichiro Oda uses the Fleur de Lis compass to depict the directions on the compass. The Fleur de Lis is a symbol closely related to nobility and royal power in Europe. The base compass is used to show the four main directions – north, east, south, and west. However, there are more complex compass variations with eight, sixteen, or thirty-two points. With more points available, navigators can determine the wind direction more accurately.

Nami is a navigator who is adept at designing and drawing maps and the Fleur de Lis. The addition of the Fleur de Lis to the compass is credited to the Portuguese cartographer Pedro Reinel, who was the first to add it to the compass while working for the King. The Fleur de Lis is a decorative shape consisting of three lily-like petals, and when placed on a map, it usually denotes north.

In modern times, there is a new version of the compass with a unique design that reflects Nami’s preferences in the One Piece world. The new design uses two concentric rings as the main elements in its appearance. The design is in line with the bracelet that Nami wears in the story and the rings that often serve as accessories on her clothes. This design reflects Nami’s characteristics and preferences in the One Piece world, reminding us of the adventures and journeys undertaken by this beloved character.

In conclusion, the story of One Piece is not only filled with epic battles and fantastic elements, but it is also rich with symbolism and historical references. Nami’s Fleur de Lis compass is an essential tool for her navigation skills and a symbol of her character’s creativity and ingenuity. Her use of the compass and her unique design reflect her independence and resourcefulness in the face of adversity and challenge.
