Nana and Ren’s romantic relationship in the Shojo anime genre is one of the most problematic relationships in the history of anime. Their relationship revolves around mental health issues that they both bring from their past and their respective dreams in the future. Ren and Nana’s love for each other is strong, but unfortunately, they are unable to compromise with their high self-esteem.
However, their high self-esteem, future dreams, and mental health issues ultimately lose to their desires and love for each other. The loneliness, sexual desires, emotions, and love eventually create a strong bond between them.
Nana Osaki, a teenage girl who was abandoned by her biological mother at a young age, never knew who her father was. Later, when Nana was a teenager, her grandmother, her only support in life, passed away, leaving Nana alone.
In high school, Nana was a gloomy and friendless student. The only friend she knew was Nobu. Unfortunately, Nana was falsely accused of prostitution and was expelled from school. But instead of defending herself, Nana took the opportunity to earn money.
Meanwhile, Ren, since he was a child, has lived in an orphanage, which naturally made him different and often lonely. When he grows up as a teenager, Ren plays the guitar and joins a local band. Unpleasant experiences in life make Ren vent his loneliness by playing with women.
When Nana’s grandmother passed away, Nana gifted herself with a red dress. She wears the red dress to attend Ren’s band show. That’s when they first met.
Surprisingly, Ren turned out to be Nobu’s friend, Nana’s only friend in high school. When Nana visited Nobu’s place, Ren was with them. At the same time, Ren and Nobu were forming a new band group and finally invited Nana to join as a vocalist. Since then, Nana and Ren chose to live together.
Their relationship became strong and passionate. They seemed to find the best place to share with each other. Even Ren, who used to play with women all the time, no longer wanted to do so since he met Nana. But unfortunately, Ren was later offered to join a bigger band group, called Trapnest.
Ren decided to leave for Tokyo to build his career in the music industry. However, despite his deep love for Nana, he couldn’t take her with him. Ren knew that Nana’s self-esteem as a woman was too high, so he couldn’t ask her to live with him.
Ren finally left Nana and went to Tokyo. Nana didn’t want to go to Tokyo just as Ren’s companion. She wanted to go to Tokyo as herself, with the name she built as a vocalist.
Nana felt abandoned, but she also couldn’t stop Ren from pursuing his dreams. They both felt vulnerable since they were apart. Nana slowly began to hate Ren because he never contacted her since he joined Trapnest. But eventually, when they met again, love spoke, and they lived together again.
