Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days is the sequel to the movie Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, which is based on a popular webtoon titled “Singwa Hamgge” created by Joo Ho-Min. This movie was released in 2018 and is a production of Dexter Studios & Realies Pictures. It was directed by Kim Yong-hwa and features actors such as Ha Jung-woo, Ju Ji-hoon, Kim Hyang-gi, Ma Dong-seok, and Kim Dong-wook.

The movie opens up with a scene where Gang-rim (Ha Jung-woo) lies on the ground with blood all over him. He is reminded of his past memories as Deok-choon (Kim Hyang-gi) yells at him, warning him that they are in grave danger. Gang-rim immediately takes up his sword and fights alongside Haewonmak (Ju Ji-hoon). The three grim reapers somehow manage to escape with the 49th soul, Kim Soo-hong (Kim Dong Wook), and head to meet Yeomra (Lee Jung Jae), the ruler of the afterlife.

Yeomra tells the three grim reapers that if they succeed in helping Kim Soo-hong get reincarnated, they will also gain the chance to be reincarnated. However, Gang-rim is more interested in knowing about his past and that of Deok-soon and Haewonmak. Gang-rim is also keen to find out more about Soo-hong’s death, which he believes was a mistake.

Yeomra allows Soo-hong to stand trial, but in return, he demands that the three grim reapers bring back the soul of Heo Choon-sam (Nam Il Woo). Heo is an old man who has managed to evade death many times before. His house is protected by a guardian deity named Seongju (Ma Dong Seok), who always fights off grim reapers that try to take his soul. Seongju is touched by Heo’s kindness and his decision to raise his young grandchildren on his own after the death of his daughter and the desertion of his son.

The three grim reapers then split up to complete their tasks. Gang-rim is tasked with accompanying Soo-hong to his trial, while Haewonmak and Deok-choon head to Heo’s house to retrieve his soul. As usual, Seongju puts up a fight, but they manage to persuade him to share his past with them, and in return, Haewonmak helps Seongju take down the debt collectors who threaten Heo and his grandchildren.

Gang-rim devises a plan to use Soo-hong as bait for a sea monster so that they can quickly cross the sea, and in the process, he recalls his past as a great general 1000 years ago. He had been trained in martial arts from a young age and had developed a sense of respect for life. However, he eventually became jealous of his adoptive brother, who became better than him in combat.

In the end, the three grim reapers complete their missions, and Soo-hong is reincarnated. The movie ends on a great note, leaving viewers with a sense of fulfillment.
