Cloverfield is a 2008 movie that tells the story of an alien creature that threatens to destroy the city of Manhattan and beyond. The creature known as Clover, emerged from the depths of the sea and wreaked havoc, terrorizing everyone in its path. The entire event was recorded through the lens of a cameraman, giving viewers a first-hand experience of the entire event. The story is an action-packed drama, horror, mockumentary, monster, romance, sci-fi, survival, and thriller movie that would keep you glued to your seat from start to finish.

The movie began with a recording released by the United States Department of Defence in Central Park, which showed footage from the camera of a man named Robert Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David). The recording contains footage of all the terrifying events that took place in the city. It showed Robert waking up from his sleep in a luxury apartment belonging to his girlfriend, Elizabeth McIntyre (Odette Yustman), located at Columbus Circle.

In addition to the recording, there are other clips that showed two couples having a date in New York and Coney Island. The recording finally ends with another clip taken by Robert’s close friend, Hudson Platt (T.J. Miller), during Rob’s surprise farewell party. Rob was set to move from New York to Japan because he got a promotion in his job.

At the party, Jason (Mike Vogel) and his girlfriend, Lily (Jessica Lucas), and Rob’s friend, Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) were present. The party was going well until Elizabeth showed up with another guy, leading to an altercation between her and Rob. The argument led to Elizabeth leaving the party, leaving Rob with Hudson and Jason.

A few moments after Elizabeth left, a massive shock occurred, leading to an outage in the entire city. When the light came back on, everyone gathered in the living room to listen to the news of the earthquake. The news highlighted that a tanker ship had capsized. Confused about the circumstances, everyone went up to the loft of the apartment to see what was happening. Suddenly, a massive explosion occurred, throwing debris towards Rob’s apartment, and everyone ran down to the ground floor.

Soon, everyone was outside the building, along with thousands of other people who were equally confused about what was happening. A few moments later, the head of Liberty’s statue floated and landed directly in front of Rob’s apartment, accompanied by the collapse of the Woolworth building and causing debris to fly around.

Jason got separated from the group just as the sea monster reemerged, hitting the bridge. Jason’s death made Lily hysterical, and they ran for their lives while the 42nd Infantry Division of the Army National Guard attacked the monster. Unfortunately, smaller parasites fell from the monster’s body and attacked the people around them.

The situation worsened when Rob received a message from Elizabeth that she was trapped in her apartment, and he immediately went to her rescue, and Jason’s brother, Lilly and Hud followed him. They explored Midtown Manhattan, fighting off small parasites, but Marlena died in the process.

Despite warnings from the military to evacuate the city, Rob and the others went in search of Beth. They ended up in the middle of a battle between the military and the alien creature. They had to seek shelter in a subway station, where they battled with small parasites, leading to the death of another member of their group.

Unperturbed by the risk, Rob and his friends continued their search for Beth. Soon they discovered that the military was planning to use the “Hammer Down Protocol” to destroy the city, and they had to hurry to get out of Manhattan.
