Ultraman Season 2 is a 3DCG original net animation (ONA) produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts. It is the follow-up to the first season, which was released on Netflix a year earlier in April 2019. This season revolves around a mysterious event of the disappearance of humanity in large numbers, and it follows the journey of a young journalist, Kotaro Higashi, who investigates this enigmatic event. Along the way, he joins forces with six united Ultramen or “Ultraman Bersatu” to stop the culprit behind the sudden disappearance.
The story begins with Kotaro Higashi discovering evidence of the missing people in America. He decides to bring this evidence to the Science Special Search Party (SSSP), a secret organization that has been investigating paranormal activities. Accompanied by his girlfriend, Izumi, Kotaro goes to the SSSP office in Japan to give the evidence to the team.
Meanwhile, Shinjirou and Rena, two close friends, are talking about the disappearance of people in New York. The executives at the SSSP are already suspecting alien involvement in this matter. Suddenly, an alien appears in the middle of the city and begins to attack. Shinjirou, who is close to the scene, transforms into Ultraman to fight the alien. Kotaro and Izumi arrive at the location and witness the battle. Kotaro hides from view, wary of the similarity of the recent events in America.
The alien becomes more aggressive and nearly attacks the innocent bystanders. Ultraman is struggling to keep up when Ultraman Seven or Moroboshi arrives to aid him in the fight. However, suddenly, everyone disappears without a trace, including Ultraman. Only Ultraman Seven, Kotaro, and Izumi are left behind due to being in a blind spot. With the mysterious incident taking place, Kotaro tries to get to Ultraman Seven for answers.
Kotaro ventures out to the suspicious location he saw earlier and discovers that the culprits responsible for the disappearances are aliens. After reporting back to Izumi, Kotaro is caught by the aliens and taken to another dimension. However, Kotaro miraculously survives the transdimensional trip, his body engulfed in flames. Ultraman Jack finds him and gives him a temporary Ultraman outfit to protect himself from exploding. Kotaro is still grappling with his new identity as an Ultraman and eventually decides to go with Ultraman Taro.
The situation worsens when Alien Pedan demands earthlings to give them a part of their planet, and if they refuse, the aliens threaten to eliminate them. Kotaro then flees with Ultraman’s suit, trying to adjust to his new role as a superhero. Ultraman Seven reports the field incident that happened earlier to Hayata Shin, Ultraman Zoffy, who is now worried about his son’s sudden disappearance.
Shinjirou awakens and overhears Alien Pedan’s threat to Alien Maaya. Hakuto, Ultraman Ace, comes to save Shinjirou, but he requests that Hakuto save Alien Maaya. After some time passes, Maaya promises to return the missing humans to their world, provided the aliens have a home to live in. However, they only have a short time to make a decision, and a full-blown attack on the SSSP office takes place. Hayata Shin sets himself as the vanguard but realizes that he cannot fight at maximum power since his Ultraman costume is still being repaired.
The storyline in Ultraman Season 2 features the disappearance of humanity in vast numbers, and it follows the path of an intrepid journalist who tries to unravel this puzzle. It also features a collaboration of six Ultramen who unite to battle against the forces of evil. This season offers an immersive viewing experience that combines action, sci-fi, and suspense with a little bit of humor.
