Samsung has recently updated its Galaxy A series with the release of two new smartphones, the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34, on March 16, 2023. While both smartphones have their own strengths and weaknesses, let’s take a look at the differences between the Samsung Galaxy A54 and Samsung Galaxy A34.
Specs and Price
Both the Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 were announced on March 16, 2023, with pre-orders launched in several regions, including Indonesia. The Galaxy A54 comes in four colors: Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome White. It is priced at Rp5,999,000 for the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM variant and Rp6,399,000 for the 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM variant.
On the other hand, the Galaxy A34 comes in Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Silver. It is priced at Rp4,999,000 for the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM variant and Rp5,399,000 for the 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM variant.
While there are no significant differences in terms of specs between the two models, the Galaxy A34 is slightly larger with a slightly bigger screen, while the A54 has a better processor, better camera system, and a more modern design.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy A54 showcases a design that is almost identical to the flagship Galaxy S23, which is one of its biggest attractions. The Galaxy A34 follows suit, although it looks like glass on the back, it has what Samsung calls “Glasstik” on the back.
Both the A54 and A34 have three individual lenses at the top left corner of their backs without housings around them, just like what the S23 model offers. However, there is quite a significant difference on the front of the two devices. The Galaxy A54 has a punch-hole camera at the top of its screen, bringing a clean and modern design, while the A34 chose a waterdrop notch to house the front camera, making it look a little old-fashioned.
Both Galaxy A54 and A34 are rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. As mentioned above, both come in four color options, although these are slightly different between the two models, with A54 featuring a white model as a replacement for the silver option of A34.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy A34 has a slightly larger screen compared to the Galaxy A54, but both have a large Super AMOLED screen, providing an incredible experience on both models. Both are flat screens, as you would find on the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ models, but as we mentioned, the A54 has a hole-punch at the top, while the A34 opted for a waterdrop design.
The Galaxy A54 has a 6.4-inch screen, matching the Galaxy S23+, while the Galaxy A34 increases it to a 6.6-inch screen. Both have Full HD+ resolution, which means pixel density is slightly sharper on the Galaxy A54. Both devices also offer the same 120Hz refresh rate. Galaxy A54 has a peak brightness of 1000nits, although Samsung has not determined whether this is the same for A34.
Hardware and Battery
The Samsung Galaxy A54 runs on Exynos 1380, while the Galaxy A34 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset. The Galaxy A54 has slightly more RAM, although A54 and A34 have the same storage options, and both have microSD support for storage expansion up to 1TB, something not offered by the Galaxy S23 models. In terms of battery, both smartphones have the same capacity of 5000 mAh.
Camera
Although many of the general specifications between the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 are similar, the camera specifications are slightly different, with the A54 offering a more powerful configuration on paper. For the A54, users will find a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). It is supported by an ultra-wide 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
On the other hand, the A34 has a 48-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, supported by an ultra-wide 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5-megapixel macro sensor with the same f/2.4 aperture as the A54. Both have a 13-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture, so the selfie and overall camera experience should be the same between the two models.
In conclusion, while the Samsung Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 have some differences, they both offer impressive features for their respective prices. It’s up to the user to decide which one best fits their needs and preferences, whether it’s design, camera, display, or hardware.
