One Piece, the popular manga series created by Eiichiro Oda, will go on hiatus for a month starting from mid-June 2023. According to Anime News Network, the manga will be on hiatus from Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from June 19 to July 18, 2023. The hiatus is due to Oda undergoing eye surgery for astigmatism, which has been affecting his work due to blurred vision. Oda had decided to undergo surgery after discussing it with his editor last year.
This is the second time Oda has had to take a break from One Piece. He took a one-month break last year to finish the final section of the One Piece story and the Red One Piece film. One Piece, which debuted in July 1997 in Weekly Shonen Jump, follows the adventures of a young pirate named Monkey D. Luffy, who is seeking the “One Piece,” a treasure left behind by pirate king Gol D. Roger. Luffy has eaten a Devil Fruit that gives him special powers, and he leads his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, on a journey to become pirate king.
The anime and film adaptations of One Piece have also been successful. Last year, One Piece: Red became the eighth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan and topped the Japanese box office in terms of ticket sales and revenue. This year, Netflix plans to release a live-action adaptation of the manga series.
As for the latest chapter, One Piece Chapter 1087, it follows the Reverie flashback and features the aftermath of the news of Cobra’s death and Vivi’s disappearance. The chapter explores the whereabouts of certain characters and focuses on the Gorosei discussing Sabo, Egghead, and the new weapon from Vegapunk. The latest chapter also features the execution of Donquixote Mjosgard by the Holy Knights and former God Valley King, Saint Figarland Garling.
One Piece Chapter 1087 is set to be released on June 18, 2023, if there are no delays. However, due to Oda’s eye surgery, One Piece will be on hiatus for a month. Fans will have to be patient and wait for the next chapter.
