“PLUTO” is a futuristic anime series that shows a harmonious coexistence between humans and robots. Naoki’s manga received the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. He said, “I really admire everyone’s courage in accepting the challenge of making an anime based on ‘PLUTO.’ I am delighted with the birth of this new series that will steal everyone’s heart. I hope that, more than ever, Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the whole world.”
Naoki and Takashi Nagasaki, another writer, stated that “PLUTO” inherits Tezuka’s philosophy and not only conveys a message about anti-war, but also reminds us of the suffering experienced by both parties. Therefore, according to Takashi, the only remaining answer is peace.
“PLUTO” centers on a thrilling murder mystery. One of the main characters, Gesicht, is a German robot inspector for Europol. In “PLUTO,” Gesicht must solve a series of murders involving both robots and humans whose heads have been replaced by foreign objects by the murderer. The case becomes complicated as various evidence suggests that robots are the ones responsible for the murders.
