Monkey D. Garp’s Surprising Decision in One Piece 1085

The latest One Piece chapter, 1085, witnessed a major plot twist when Monkey D. Garp unexpectedly defeated Kurohige and decided to become a pirate. This caused chaos and even cost him his position in the Navy. According to leaks, Garp finally left the Navy and became a pirate with the World Government surprisingly making him a Yonko pirate with a bounty of 5.6 billion Belly. Here is a list of the new bounty rankings of 11 One Piece characters after Garp became a pirate.

The most shocking element of this twist was that not only did Garp kill Kurohige, but the Yonko died at the hands of Bogard’s sword. Despite this, the World Government appointed him as a Yonko because of the Navy’s attention to Garp’s decision to become a pirate. Even more surprisingly, Garp was immediately given a bounty of 5.7 billion Belly, surpassing the value of Raja Bajak Laut Gol D Roger’s head, which was worth only 5.5 billion Belly. This made Garp the pirate with the highest bounty in the One Piece universe.

The decision to appoint Garp with such a high bounty makes sense because he was a former Navy officer with a wealth of experience, achievements, and a high-ranking position. He knows the secrets, weaknesses, and strategies of the Navy, which is why the World Government made this decision. Additionally, Garp is a fearsome fighter, which adds to the rationale behind the government assigning him a high bounty.

As Luffy’s grandfather, one might wonder if Garp would join the Straw Hat Pirates. While this is possible given Garp’s experience and strength, it is unlikely since Garp does not want to spoil Luffy. He knows that if he helps Luffy, then he won’t be able to grow on his own. Therefore, after becoming a pirate, Garp is likely to recruit his own crew, rather than joining the Straw Hat Pirates. The SWORD members are potential possibilities to join his crew since they are a group of Navy officers who do not follow their rules.

Garp’s decision to have his own crew is positive for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates since it will make them compete with each other and help Luffy to progress and become stronger. Garp thinks that with him, Luffy will be motivated to become stronger.

One notable instance of this was seen in the Wano Arc when Captain Hina informed Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp that Luffy was besieged by two Yonko Kaido and Big Mom in Wano. Instead of panicking, Garp smiled and focused on eating his food. “He’s still a kid,” he said to Hina then. It would be interesting to see the impact of Garp’s decision to become a pirate and how he rises up the ranks to become a Yonko in his own right.
