The movie, which was released on January 10th, 2014, was nominated for two Academy Awards and is considered one of the best war films of modern cinema.

Synopsis

The film is set on the backdrop of the Afghan war, where four brave Navy SEALs, Michael Murphy, Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz, and Marcus Luttrell are assigned to take part in a mission named “Operation Red Wings.” Their mission is to capture and kill a Taliban leader, Ahmad Shah, who seems to have complete control over the surrounding regions.

The team is dropped from a helicopter in the dead of night, right above the Taliban’s basecamp. They have a difficult time communicating with their headquarters to make informed decisions. Things get complicated when they bump into a group of goat herders. The SEALs then find themselves debating what to do next as the situation becomes challenging.

Murphy suggests three options: the first is to release the goat herders and hike up to the mountain to find help to return to the headquarters. The second option is to tie up the herders and continue with the mission, while the last option is to kill them and proceed with the mission. The team is divided, with Murphy and Marcus choosing to cancel the mission while Axelson and Dietz insist on continuing with the operation.
