Synopsis:

The movie is set in the year 2022, and it falls under the genre of Biography, Crime, and Drama. It is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Alia Bhatt as Gangubai, Shantanu Maheshwari as Ramnik, Vijay Raaz as Lala, Ajay Devgn as Karim Lala, and Abhinay Raj Singh as Hussain Zaidi. Gangubai is a woman who is forced into prostitution and becomes one of the most sought-after prostitutes in the city. She is known for her bravery and her determination to fight for the rights of women who are looked down upon by society.

Gangubai, originally known as Gangga, was in love with Ramnik, but her dreams were shattered when she was sold into prostitution. She was forced to change her name to Ganggu and was deprived of food and other basic necessities as she was locked up in a dark room. She was beaten and abused by her clients but was determined to survive in the world of prostitution.

One day, Ganggu stood up for herself and burned the bonus money given to her by a client. She told Sheela Massi that her old name was Gangga Harjivandas, and she should now be called Ganggu. This incident marked the beginning of a new life for her. She started to change her ways and became one of the most famous prostitutes in the city.

One night, Ganggu was assaulted by a client named Shaukata Khan Pathan. She was traumatized, but she refused to remain silent. She sought help from Rahim Lala, who promised to give her justice. Shaukata was beaten by Rahim, and Ganggu became a good friend of Rahim.

Rahim eventually became Ganggu’s mentor, and he gave her the name “Gangubai, the Queen Mafia.” Gangubai had a clear vision for her life, and she did not want other prostitutes to suffer as she did. She participated in the presidential elections of Kamathipura and won against Raziabai, her opponent.

Gangubai made history by allowing a prostitute’s daughter to marry a man from a respectable family. However, her journey did not end there. She fought for the rights of women and children in Kamathipura and sought help from Mr. Fezi to spread awareness about their plight.
