Solo Leveling: Finding the Strongest Shadows of Sung Jin-Woo

Solo Leveling is a Korean manhwa that narrates the story of a Hunter named Sung Jin-Woo. He becomes a player after completing a secret quest from the System and awakens as a Necromancer. Unlike other hunters, he can increase his power by doing quests from the System, which enables him to summon the strongest shadows to aid him in solo leveling. Though he already is strong alone, as a Necromancer, he can make raids even more accessible by summoning dozens of powerful shadows. However, he carefully chooses which shadows to summon based on his limitations and the particular requirements needed for that specific quest.

Let’s take a look at the nine most potent shadows summoned by Sung Jin-Woo in Solo Leveling:

9. Magic Unit

Sung Jin-Woo is not only a physical fighter, for he also has three mage shadows that he resurrected after accomplishing the quest Job Change. These magic units provide support by launching long-range magical attacks, and Sung Jin-Woo occasionally gifts them items like the Orb of Avarice.

8. Tank

One beast shadow that Sung Jin-Woo summoned was Tank, the elite Ice Bear that he discovered in the Red Gate Dungeon. Tank has a robust physique and even has a saddle on his back, which at times, serves as a mode of transportation for Sung Jin-Woo.

7. Min Byung-Gyu

Min Byung-Gyu was a former healer rank-S Hunter who retired. During a raid at Jeju Island, he was killed by the Ant King and eaten. Sung Jin-Woo resurrected Min Byung-Gyu to cure the wounds of Cha Hae-In during the same raid. However, after that task was complete, Sung Jin-Woo released the shadow, and his spirit passed on to the afterlife.

6. Iron

Kim Chul was a rank-A Hunter from the White Tiger Guild, who had the role of a Tank. However, when he disobeyed Sung Jin-Woo’s plan and had his team massacred, he was killed by Sung Jin-Woo’s shadow, Igris. Igris then resurrected him as Iron. As a shadow, Iron served as Sung Jin-Woo’s new tank, despite his low intelligence.

5. Fangs

Fangs, which was formerly known as Kargargan, was a high orc shaman, and a boss at a rank-A dungeon that the Hunters Guild was raiding. With Sung Jin-Woo’s help, they defeated Kargargan, and he became Fangs, a shadow that provided magic support by casting curses and buffs for Sung Jin-Woo’s units.

4. Greed

Greed or Hwang Dong-Su was a rank-S Hunter from Korea who transferred to the United States. When he found out his brother was killed by Sung Jin-Woo, he aggressively sought to avenge him. However, he was easily defeated and later resurrected as a shadow that became stronger than ever.

3. Igris

Igris, the Blood-Red Commander, was an elite knight and an opponent that Sung Jin-Woo fought in a dungeon during a quest. Although Igris was better with a sword, he lost to Sung Jin-Woo fighting with bare hands. Eventually, after several attempts, Sung Jin-Woo resurrected him as a shadow that became his primary physical fighter and equal to some rank-S opponents.

2. Beru

Beru was the Ant King that terrorized Jeju Island and killed Min Byung-Gyu and Ryuji Goto, the strongest rank-S hunter from Japan. Sung Jin-Woo defeated Beru and later resurrected him as his own shadow that excelled in both physical and magical attacks.

Sung Jin-Woo’s shadows indeed gave him an edge in his battles. Every shadow has their own unique abilities that he strategically uses to gain the upper hand. Sung Jin-Woo’s capability as a Necromancer still has more room to grow, which leads us to anticipate more legendary shadows in the future.
