Disco Elysium, one of the best games released in 2019 and 2021, now boasts a special photo mode unlike anything found in most other games. Announced by ZA/UM earlier this week, the new ‘Collage Mode’ gives players full access to all characters, environments, and properties found within this role-playing game (RPG). The update will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch users in the coming days.
“Collage Mode is an extraordinary tool that puts the characters, environments, and visual effects of Disco Elysium into the hands of all players to create original art,” said ZA/UM’s art director, Kaspar Tamsalu, in a press release.
Players can use this power to place their favorite non-playable characters (NPCs) in various comical and sensible poses. Users are then free to add filters and change the time of day to alter the mood of their Collage Mode captures.
Tamsalu says, “It also allows you to examine our brushstrokes up close and lets you pose and rotate character models as if they were toys in the palm of your hand. You can truly see up close how the artists came together to create the game’s distinctive look, which extends to new artwork we’ve created specifically for this mode.”
Most intriguingly, Collage Mode also grants players the freedom to write their own dialogues for Disco Elysium, making it seem like it came directly from the game itself.
“The latest update offers a truly new way to explore the world of Disco Elysium as it is a dollhouse, a blank canvas, and a storytelling machine all at once,” said Collage Mode’s lead developer, Chris Priestman, as reported by Gematsu.com.
“We’ve made this for our incredibly talented fans, as we’ve spent years admiring everything they create – from beautiful paintings, to memorable short stories, and extraordinary cosplay. Now we hope there will be even more! We only ask that they be gentle with Kim Kitsuragi; he can only take so much love,” Priestman concluded.
