Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century is the third animated film in the Detective Conan franchise released in 1999. Synopsis
In the movie, Ayumi wakes up in the middle of the night to find Kaito Kid on the balcony of her apartment. Ayumi, half asleep and confused, finds a handsome man surrounded by helicopter lights in front of her balcony. Upon further investigation, it turns out that Kaito Kid is being chased because he sent a message indicating that he would come to steal a Fabergé egg that would be displayed in the Sonoko family’s museum. The egg, which was once Sonoko’s toy, turned out to be a valuable inheritance legacy.
The Fabergé egg is known as a Romanov dynasty keepsake egg, left by Tsar Russia. The Suzuki family is one of the owners of the 51st keepsake egg and intends to exhibit it to the public with the permission of Suzuki Group Director, Shiro Suzuki, who seeks the help of the Tokyo and Osaka police to secure the famous egg. Kogoro Mouri, Ran, and Conan, along with Heiji Hattori and his girlfriend, Kazuha Toyama, join forces to investigate Kaito Kid and the Fabergé egg.
Upon arrival at the Suzuki family museum, Shiro introduces them to several interested parties who claim that the Suzuki family’s Fabergé egg is better off in their hands. Some of them, including Sergei Ovchinnicov, the representative of the Russian embassy for antique goods, a businessman named Inu Shoichi, a Romanov dynasty researcher, Hoshi Seiran, and a journalist searching for the origin of the keepsake egg, Sagawa Ryu.
After introductions and showing the egg to the Conan group, Shiro and Kogoro leave the museum. Meanwhile, Sonoko, Ran, and Kazuha stroll around the city, while Heiji and Conan try to find out where Kaito Kid will appear to steal the keepsake egg. Shortly after leaving the museum, Heiji and Conan meet a woman named Kousaka Natsumi who wants to meet Shiro Suzuki to see the same keepsake egg as her great-grandfather’s sketch.
With the help of a wristwatch, Conan determines where Kaito Kid will appear and chases after him. However, Conan is surprised by a mysterious figure who shoots Kaito from afar, injuring his carrier pigeon and making the precious keepsake egg fall. Conan immediately returns it to the Suzuki family. As a result, the exhibition at the museum is canceled, and the egg is taken back to Tokyo with the Suzuki family’s cruise ship.
On the way to Tokyo, Natsumi tells everything. She shows a sketch of two eggs and a key found among her late grandmother’s belongings. At the same time, Conan’s detective instincts tell him that the mysterious shooter is on the ship with them. As expected, Sagawa is found dead in his cabin with a gunshot wound in his eye. Upon discovering this, Inspector Megure and his team arrive with a helicopter to investigate the crime scene.
Initially, they suspected Nishino, the father of Sonoko’s servant, but Conan was sure that Scorpion was the culprit. Scorpion is a notorious killer who always shoots his victim’s right eye. Moreover, the disappearance of a small boat from the ship indicates that Scorpio has escaped. After arriving in Tokyo, Conan and his group go to the Natsumi family castle in Yokosuka. However, they did not know that Scorpion was already there, targeting the second Fabergé egg.
While exploring the castle, Conan’s group discovers a secret passage below the castle. As they cross the tunnel, Inui sees a silhouette he chases in one of the tunnels and is shot dead.
