Crunchyroll, a company that focuses on anime and manga, announced the nominees for the best anime of 2022 on January 18. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 25, at 5 pm. The announcement can be seen on the Anime Awards website and on all of Crunchyroll’s social channels. The Crunchyroll Awards are one of the annual awards, and this year marks its sixth year. Voting is open for the best anime and represents nearly 40 anime studios on eight streaming platforms with a record high.
Crunchyroll gives fans the opportunity to choose their favorite voice actor for series dubbed in English, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. At least 39 different series have been nominated in many categories. This year, Crunchyroll added the Best Film, Best Action Series, and Best Romance Series categories. Meanwhile, the Best Couple category has been abolished.
Jujutsu Kaisen (source: obs.line-scdn) dominated the most nominations with 16 out of 14 award categories. Next, ODDTAXI entered 11 nominations, and the third was followed by Attack on Titan Final Season with 9 nominations. Other anime such as 86 Eighty-Six, Ranking of Kings, and Sonny Boy also received many nominations this year.
However, the anime that gets the most nominations does not always win the most awards. Learning from last year, the anime Beasters initially dominated with 9 nominations but ultimately only received 1 award when announced. Another anime, Great Pretender, received 12 nominations but did not win any awards.
So, who will win this year? Being nominated is not a guarantee of winning an award, but it does increase the chances of winning. Attack on Titan Final Season, although not the most nominated winner, seems to be the most talked-about anime this year. AoT even ranks second as the most anticipated anime this year after Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. In addition to being in the top three most nominated winners, AoT will finish this year after a decade of airing. Because this year is the final year, many fans are more enthusiastic about AoT, and it will affect the number of votes.
