Boruto Becomes a Villain: What Happened and What’s Next?

In chapter 79 of Boruto’s manga, Boruto turns into a villain. While the release of chapter 80 is still a few weeks away, fans are eager to know what will happen to Boruto after this twist. The fate of Boruto seems to follow the fate of other anime and manga protagonists who have turned evil, such as Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass, Light Yagami from Death Note, and Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan. However, what happened to Boruto is different from these three characters.

When Lelouch, Light, and Eren turn evil, they do so because of a mission they have set out to achieve. Boruto, on the other hand, turns evil because of circumstances beyond his control. So, what caused Boruto to turn evil, and what are the implications for the future?

1. Kawaki

Kawaki is a member of Kara who was taken in by Naruto and treated like his own child. However, fans knew from the start that Kawaki had bad intentions. He planned to kill Naruto, even though Naruto had taken care of him with the hope that Kawaki would become good. Boruto and Kawaki soon clash as enemies on top of Hokage Mountain. They had just accepted each other as brothers, but Kawaki betrays Naruto and Hinata, trapping them in a secret dimension and attempting to kill Boruto. He did not want Momoshiki Otsutsuki to possess Naruto’s son’s body. While Kawaki thought he acted in the best interest, his actions led to Boruto becoming a new villain.

2. Omnipotence, the Cause of Boruto’s Villain Turn

When Kawaki tries to flee, he meets Eida. The girl wants Kawaki to stay alive because she loves him. But when her emotions become overwhelming, she unleashes a Shinjutsu that rewrites reality. She turns Kawaki into Naruto’s child, so people think that Boruto is an adopted child who killed Naruto and Hinata. Mitsuki tries to kill Boruto as he thinks his friend has turned into a terrorist. This event is shocking and destabilizes the status quo. Amado had no idea that the DNA Shibai he created for Eida gave her god-like powers, so the effect could not be reversed.

3. Boruto Will Become a Rogue Ninja

After the body swap, Boruto wears a scratched Uchiha headband, which is only worn by traitors. He also wears a cloak and unsheathes a sword, just like Sasuke when he became Konoha’s enemy. However, when Konoha went to pursue Sasuke, now the situation is reversed. There is a possibility that Boruto, with his injured eyes, will spend the rest of the series as a fugitive after being falsely accused of killing his birth parents. On the other hand, this could reveal how Boruto hones his Jougan eyes- a power only possessed by the Otsutsuki clan. It indicates that he and Momoshiki will become like Naruto and Kurama. They will learn from each other, even if Boruto must forget about Momoshiki helping Kawaki run away from the village. Unfortunately, what happens indicates that there will be more additional damage. By making Uzumaki a villain, fans will be curious about how Kawaki will act. He can use Eida’s powers when he realizes she can change the existence.

4. Momoshiki Otsutsuki’s Prediction

Before, Momoshiki mentioned that “blue eyes” would take everything from Boruto. At that time, fans thought that Momoshiki was referring to himself. When he took over Boruto’s body, the Hokage’s child’s eyes changed color. Now, it seems that Momoshiki’s statement refers to Eida. Momoshiki said that what Eida did in chapter 79 is her true power, known as Shinjutsu Omnipotence. The power can only be used by the Otsutsuki god. According to Momoshiki, Eida could not control the power, and she could only use it unconsciously at Kawaki’s urging. After Kawaki understands the situation, he asks Eida to tell Shikamaru that Naruto is dead and that Boruto killed him.

5. Sarada Will Play a Significant Role

Eida’s power does not affect everyone in Konoha. Of all people, only Sarada remembers the true identities of Boruto and Kawaki—other than Otsutsuki and Eida. Hence, she can play a vital role in the future. With how Boruto and Kawaki acted at the beginning of chapter 79, Konoha residents would not believe Sarada’s story. But there is a small possibility that only Sarada’s father, Sasuke, will believe her. The former Rinnegan user could switch sides and secretly teach Boruto. That could explain why Boruto gets Sasuke’s cloak and sword at the beginning of chapter 80.

In conclusion, Boruto’s villain turn occurred because of circumstances beyond his control. His fate seems to be a mix of tragedy and action, leading to lots of character development, fights, and emotional moments. With characters like Kawaki, Sarada, and Sasuke involved, it will be interesting to see how this arc develops.
