Understanding the Reasons behind Eustass Kid’s Attack on Shanks in One Piece

Posted on

Eustass Kid’s recent reckless act of picking a fight with Yonko Shanks has become the hot topic among anime and manga fans of One Piece. Shanks defeated Kid with a single strike, and Kid got what was coming to him. But why did he make such a foolish move in the first place? Here are some possible explanations for Kid’s actions.

1. Seeking Revenge Against Shanks

The encounter between Kid and Shanks in Elbaf was not the first time they met. Previously, Kid and Shanks had collided in a battle during the time skip. In that fight, the Red Hair Pirates emerged victorious, and Kid lost one of his hands. Kid may have attacked Shanks in Elbaf out of revenge for the humiliation he suffered.

2. Becoming a Yonko

The quickest way to become a Yonko is by defeating one. Blackbeard became a Yonko after killing his former captain, Whitebeard. Luffy was also promoted to a Yonko title after defeating Kaido. If Kid defeats Shanks in Elbaf, he may have a chance to take his place as a Yonko, since he sees Shanks as a target that can help him get closer to One Piece.

3. Strengthening Haki with the Jiki Jiki no Mi

As explained by Silvers Rayleigh, the fastest way to strengthen Haki is to fight against someone stronger. That’s what Luffy did by fighting foes like Doflamingo and Kaido, which helped him become stronger. Kid may have applied the same tactic. After defeating Big Mom, it’s evident that Kid gained a tremendous boost in power. Consequently, he thinks his Haki will become even stronger if he manages to defeat Shanks.

4. Overconfidence After Defeating Big Mom

Defeating a Yonko is no easy feat. Yonko possess an extraordinary level of power, which is recognized by the World Government. Therefore, triumphant over Big Mom was a significant achievement for Kid. Unfortunately, that victory fueled his ego, and he believed that he could defeat other Yonko as well. Kid failed to remember that he didn’t beat Big Mom alone; Law helped him in that fight.

5. Losing His Plot Armor

One of the significant advantages of allying with the Straw Hat Pirates is “plot armor.” Plot armor means that a character who is vital to the story’s development will not die even if they are in a dangerous situation. We have seen characters like Law and others almost die but are saved by this plot armor. Kid also enjoyed this protection when he fought Big Mom in Wano. However, since he is not on friendly terms with Luffy anymore, he lost his plot armor and became vulnerable to Shanks’s attack.

In conclusion, Kid’s attack on Shanks was a foolish decision. He confronted someone who he knew he couldn’t defeat, and he reaped the consequences. His reasons for doing so were based on revenge, ambition to become a Yonko, strengthening his Haki, overconfidence after defeating Big Mom, and losing his plot armor. Which reason do you believe is the most convincing?
