Titanic is a remarkable masterpiece by the renowned director, James Cameron. Released in December, 1997, it remains one of the highest grossing movies of all time, earning $2.194 billion at the box office, including the 3D re-release in April, 2012, which commemorated the sinking of the ship. The timeless movie tells the story of Jack and Rose, two lovers from different classes, whose lives intersect onboard the Titanic, a massive ship that would soon come to a tragic end.

Synopsis

The movie opens with Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) and his team on an underwater expedition to find the wreckage of Titanic, using the Akademik Mstislav Keldysh research ship. However, Brock has another motive, which is to find the priceless Heart of the Ocean diamond necklace, registered as one of the valuable items on board the ship. After locating the wreckage, Brock begins his search for the treasure, which he believes is in a safe.

Upon opening the safe, Brock finds only a sketch of a naked young woman wearing the coveted necklace. He publishes the sketch, catching the attention of an elderly woman named Rose Dawson Calvert (Gloria Stuart). Rose calls Brock and claims that the woman in the sketch is her younger self. Brock then invites Rose aboard the Keldysh to share her story of sailing on the Titanic.

Rose recounts her experience, and the scene on the screen changes from the wreckage to the magnificent ship in its prime. Rose, then a 17-year-old girl, boards the Titanic with her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater (Frances Fisher), and her wealthy 30-year-old fiancé, Caledon Nathan Hockley (Billy Zane), en route to New York on the ship’s maiden voyage from Southampton, England. Despite her engagement to Cal, Rose falls in love with the charming, penniless artist, Jack Dawson (Leonardo Di Caprio).
