In this modern era, keeping yourself up-to-date and familiarized with modern technology can be a daunting task, especially for those who are not tech-savvy. These people are often referred to as GAPTEK, short for “gagap teknologi,” which translates to technology-challenged. And lately, gadgets seem to be getting more complicated every day, leaving GAPTEK people feeling even more overwhelmed. However, the good news is that there are ways to overcome GAPTEK and become at ease with new gadgets.
Albertus Siswo Yulianto, a gadget content creator, shared some tips for GAPTEK people to overcome confusion when facing a new gadget. Albertus advised us to read the gadget manual and pay attention to the guidelines written there, or if reading is not the cup of tea, then one can watch videos on YouTube for reference.
“Whenever you get a new gadget, make sure to read the manual. If you’re not a fan of reading, then you can easily find step-by-step guidelines on YouTube,” Albertus said during a live stream interview with our site.co in their Ngobralin program on Friday (17/3/2023).
Albertus acknowledged that some people prefer watching and listening instead of reading, which is why his videos on tips and tricks for gadgets are popular. He believes that watching other people’s experiences can be more effective for some individuals.
“Some people like reading, while others might not. This is why videos on tips and tricks are popular. Because some people prefer to watch rather than read. Not everyone can follow the manual, and some need to see it step-by-step,” Albertus added.
Albertus also stated his purpose for creating gadget-related content is to educate people and hopes to make them more tech-savvy. He aims to provide guidance to avoid surprises when encountering a new gadget and hopes people can become more familiar with technology trends.
“I want to educate people wherever they are. So, they won’t be surprised when new technology arrives in Indonesia. They can be prepared by studying the existing technology trends outside, like the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) in Singapore. Then, I also review new gadgets so people can learn more about them,” said Albertus.
In conclusion, becoming tech-savvy is no longer an option; it is a necessity. And with the right mindset, learning how to operate a new gadget can be an easy task, even for GAPTEK people. By following the suggestions shared by Albertus, anyone can overcome GAPTEK and be at ease with the latest gadgets.
