Portgas D Ace, also known as the Fire Fist, is one of the characters created by Eiichiro Oda in the One Piece world who has passed away. Initially, Eiichiro Oda wanted to name Ace Portgas D. Lang. However, when Ace was born, he was given the name Gol D Ace, just like his father, Gol D Roger. Interestingly, Ace changed his name to Portgas D. Ace, just like his mother, Portgas D. Rouge, out of hatred for his father.

2. The Highest Bounty

Before his death, Ace had the highest bounty among all the pirates. Even before the time skip, Ace was the most popular among the rookies. He had three different wanted posters with different bounties.

3. Meaning Behind His Arm Tattoo

Ace has several tattoos on his body, but the one that is shown in the series is the one on his arm with the letters ASCE crossed by an “S.” According to Oda, the crossed “S” is a tribute to Ace’s believed-dead brother, Sabo.

4. His Time as a Marine
Ace once pretended to be a marine during his journey to find Marshall D. Teach. He did so to gather information and use it against Teach. Ace’s journey as a marine was briefly mentioned in the cover chapter 272-305, where he disguised himself and met a man named Mode. After receiving help from Mode, Ace promised to send a letter to vice admiral Koril as a way of repaying his debt.
