The Retired Heroes of My Hero Academia: Who They Are and Why They Stopped

Posted on

In the world of My Hero Academia, heroes possess extraordinary powers that enable them to eradicate evil. However, they remain ordinary humans who are not immortal. For many reasons, they cannot be heroes forever. From serious injuries to the weakening of their powers, some characters in the series decided to retire from heroism. Let’s take a look at who they are and why they stopped.

1. All Might

When it comes to retired heroes in My Hero Academia, All Might is probably the first character that comes to mind. He was once the strongest hero in Japan and was labeled as a Symbol of Peace. However, five years before the series began, he fought Toxic Chainsaw, which caused him serious injuries and weakened his physical condition. As a result, All Might could only use One For All for a short time because his body could no longer withstand the impact of its usage.

After meeting Deku, All Might decides to pass on his quirk to him. At this point, All Might has not retired from heroism. However, during his fight against All For One, he uses up the remaining One For All in his body to defeat the Symbol of Evil. As a result, All Might has no choice but to retire because he no longer has the strength and physical condition to continue being a hero.

2. Ingenium

Known as the hero Ingenium, Tensei Ida is Tenya Ida’s brother. It can be said that Tensei was the one who inspired Tenya to become a hero like him. Unfortunately, Ingenium had to end his hero career after fighting the Hero Killer, Stain. Although he failed to kill him, Stain managed to paralyze the Turbo Hero. Due to his deteriorating health, Tensei decides to stop being a hero and pass on the name Ingenium to his younger brother.

3. Ragdoll

Tomoko Shiretoko, aka Ragdoll, was previously a member of the Wild, Wild Pussycats. They were a group of heroes focused on search and rescue missions. Along with her colleagues, Ragdoll was responsible for training class 1-A during the Forest Training Camp arc.

Unfortunately, she was unaware that they would be attacked by the Vanguard Action Squad, an elite criminal group who had just been recruited by the League of Villains. In the attack, Ragdoll became a victim of their abduction. When taken to the League of Villains’ headquarters, All For One steals her quirk, forcing her to retire from heroism.

4. Death Arms

Death Arms was a sincere hero who scolded Deku when he tried to save Bakugo from the Sludge Villain recklessly. Unfortunately, he could not withstand the criticism thrown at him. After Dabi revealed his identity during the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front, society began to lose faith in heroes. This caused many heroes to retire, including Death Arms.

5. Yoroi Musha

Yoroi Musha can be said to be one of the strongest heroes in Japan. This is because he was previously the number nine hero. Like Death Arms, Yoroi Musha also retired from heroism after the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front.

When society began to lose faith in heroes, Yoroi Musha announced his retirement as a hero. He confessed that he had only wanted fame and honor all this time. Of course, his decision received a lot of harsh criticism from the public.

It is indeed regrettable that these five characters had to retire because of their circumstances. Who do you think will be the next hero to retire in My Hero Academia?
