SWORD consists of those Marines who hold principles opposite of Akainu. It was a secretive group, and some of its agents even went undercover and joined pirate groups. However, after Coby’s kidnapping by Kurohige, the group revealed themselves by introducing their members, such as Garp, Helmeppo, Tashigi, and Hibari. SWORD aims to save Coby and eliminate Kurohige’s pirate group, which they consider violating the rules set by the World Government.
The emergence of SWORD might be considered treason against Fleet Admiral Sakazuki Akainu. Although Marine has become stronger under Akainu’s leadership, he still has to face several dangerous challenges while leading.
