Disenchanted is a 2022 American musical film by Walt Disney Studios, directed by Adam Shankman and starring Amy Adams, James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, Gabriella Baldacchino, and Jayma Mays. The film is a sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted and centers around Giselle, a fairy-tale princess from the kingdom of Andalasia who has now adjusted to life in the real world and married her true love, Robert. The couple has a daughter, Morgan, and Giselle has a stepdaughter from Robert’s first marriage. However, life in New York City becomes too chaotic, and the family moves to a quiet suburb, where Giselle’s magical past catches up with her.

The film opens with a brief recap of the events of the first movie, where Giselle (played by Amy Adams) falls in love with Robert, a New York City lawyer, and decides to stay in the real world. After a successful adjustment, Giselle has married Robert, and they have a daughter, Sofia. Giselle and Robert move out of their Manhattan apartment and into a house in the suburbs of Monroeville, where things start to unravel.

Morgan, Robert’s first child, doesn’t take well to the move, and Giselle’s attempts to create a perfect life for her family fail miserably. Feeling nostalgic for her life in Andalasia, Giselle wishes for her old world’s magical charm, and her wish is granted by a magic wand Giselle receives as a housewarming gift. Suddenly, the family’s new hometown becomes a fairy-tale wonderland, completely at Giselle’s beck and call. The once boring suburb is now Monrolasia with Robert as a sword-wielding prince and Morgan as a care-free princess.

However, as all fairy tales go, there is always a villain to spoil the fun, and this instance isn’t any different. Malvina Monroe (played by Maya Rudolph), who owns the town, becomes suspicious of Giselle and her newfound powers and steals the magic wand during a garden party.

Malvina’s two assistants, Rosaleen (played by Yvette Nicole Brown) and Ruby (Jayma Mays), assist with the heist, but their plan backfires upon giving the wand to Malvina. Giselle turns into a wicked stepmother straight out of a fairytale, not realizing the full effect of the wand. The family’s pet squirrel, Pip, turns into a mischievous cat, while Morgan becomes trapped in the attic. Malvina even testifies how Giselle’s magic has created chaos in Monrolasia.

It’s up to Giselle to fix the mess she created and get rid of the wand before it’s too late. With the help of her old friends, Pip and Edward (played by James Marsden), she must travel to Andalasia to fix the damage she caused. But, when their journey takes an unexpected turn, it sets in motion events that could forever change the fate of both worlds.

In conclusion, Disenchanted is a fun and entertaining movie that takes us back to the magical world of fairy tales. It re-introduces us to our beloved characters while introducing new ones along the way. The plot is intriguing, and the movie’s execution is flawless. Overall, Disenchanted is a must-watch movie for anyone who loves happy endings and good music.
