Richie Rich (1994) is a comedy-family movie directed by Donald Petrie. The story is about Richard ‘Richie’ Rich Jr. (Macaulay Culkin), the only child of ultra-rich parents. Though he was raised in a life of luxury, Richie wishes to have a normal life with his parents and friends. But his wealth creates a lot of problems for him.

The movie features Macaulay Culkin as Richie, Edward Herrmann as his father, a renowned businessman and philanthropist, and Christine Ebersole as his mother, a socialite and homemaker.

Synopsis:

Richie Rich has never experienced poverty in his life. He is the son of the wealthiest family in the world, the Rich family. Richie lives in a giant mansion, has a private amusement park, a personal chef, and everything a person could ever need or want. Despite having all these things, Richie is bored with his life.

He only has a few true friends and spends most of his time with his butler, Herbert Cadbury (Jonathan Hyde). Richie’s parents, Richard and Regina, are always busy with work and social events. They are unable to give him their attention.

One day, while returning from the opening of a factory his father bought, Richie sees some local kids playing baseball in a field near the factory. He asks if he can play too but has to bet his own money as these kids not trust him and thought he was pretending to be good at it. The game becomes a disaster, and the angry kids shun Richie. The incident moves Richie to tears.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Van Dough (John Larroquette), the CFO of Rich Industries, decides to steal the Rich’s fortune. He believes it’s stored in a giant safe behind a statue of the family at Mount Rushmore. With the help of his aide, Ferguson (Chelcie Ross), and Richie’s head of security, Lawrence plans to blow up the Rich family’s private plane while they are on board.

But Cadbury, who knows that Richie needs friends, arranges for the baseball-playing kids to visit Richie’s home. They all enjoy themselves. But Richie soon discovers Lawrence’s plan and foils it, saving his parents and ultimately making new friends.

Richie Rich (1994) is an evergreen movie that portrays the life of a wealthy boy and his journey towards finding true happiness. The movie highlights the importance of true friendship, and how wealth does not guarantee happiness.
