Synopsis
Drive is a 2011 action crime movie directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. The movie’s story revolves around a nameless stunt driver (played by Ryan Gosling), who works as a mechanic and also doubles as a professional getaway driver for criminals. But his feelings for her are put to the test when her husband, Standard Gabriel (Oscar Isaac), is released from prison and becomes involved in a dangerous robbery plot.
The Plot
As a professional driver for criminals, the nameless driver encounters Standard’s debt with Cook (James Biberi), a ruthless mobster who forces him to rob a pawnshop to repay his debt. The driver offers to help Standard for the safety of Irene and Benicio, in exchange for their freedom from Cook’s reign. Standard’s attempt to make a run from the robbery resulted in his death, with the driver taking the money and running. However, this decision puts both the driver and his love interest, Irene, at risk.
The Driver Takes Revenge
With the driver’s identity exposed, he assumes the role of a vigilante seeking revenge on the individuals who pose a threat to Irene and himself. Aided by Shannon (Bryan Cranston), his benefactor, and a Hollywood producer, the driver arms himself with weapons and takes on the criminal underworld of Los Angeles.
In his attempt to retrieve Irene and Benicio from the danger they are in, he tracks down and eliminates Nino (Ron Perlman), the mastermind behind the conspiracy. The driver then makes another deal with Bernie (Albert Brooks), a shady business associate, to exchange money for the driver’s life. Bernie, however, breaks his promise and attempts to kill the driver, leading to a violent showdown between the two.
