Rec 2 is the sequel to the first movie, Rec, which was released in 2007. The movie continues the story of a deadly virus that spreads rapidly in an apartment building in the heart of Barcelona. The plot of the movie revolves around Owen, a Health Ministry official who is sent to investigate the apartment building. He is accompanied by a team of four police officers from the GEO. They hear horrifying sounds coming from the lower floors, and so they continue their search from the upper floors to the lower floors.
Unfortunately, one of the police officers, Martos, is attacked and infected by one of the tenants. Owen isolates him in a room and recites holy verses while putting a rosary around his neck. Owen reveals that he is a priest sent by the Vatican to retrieve a blood sample from Tristana Medeiros, the possessed girl who caused the virus.
The team searches the building for Tristana and ends up at the attic, which is believed to be her hiding place. They discover the dead body of Pastor Albelda, who had come to the building earlier to meet Tristana. Owen and Fernandez finally discover the blood sample stored by Pastor Albelda, but unfortunately, it breaks.
They are forced to start all over again. Owen and the GEO team must find Tristana to get a new blood sample. As they head back to the attic, they encounter a man infected by the virus. Fernandez and Lara throw him from the top of the building, killing him.
As they reach the middle floor, they see three children and a firefighter suddenly appear from nowhere. The children, Tite, Mire, and Ori, had taken a shortcut through the underground path with the firefighter. When they see the dead man, they all get freaked out. Ori becomes infected and transforms into a zombie. Owen uses Ori to communicate with Tristana, who is revealed to be hiding in the attic.
The monster inside Tristana makes her invisible in the light, and so Owen and his team use a camera with an infrared lens. Angela, the journalist who survived the first movie, arrives with the camera. She reveals that she saw Tristana in the attic through the infrared lens. The team searches the building for her, and they eventually end up finding her.
The movie ends with the team destroying the camera and Owen distributing the blood sample he obtained from Tristana to the research labs.
