Point Blank is a 2019 action thriller film directed by Joe Lynch, which is a remake of a 2010 French film titled À Bout Portant. The movie revolves around a nurse named Paul Booker (played by Anthony Mackie) who is forced to team up with a criminal named Abe Guevara (played by Frank Grillo) to uncover corrupt cops.
The story begins with Abe Guevara trying to meet a prosecutor named Joshua Gregory in his house, only to find him dead with gunshots. Suddenly, a group of people arrive at the location and start shooting at Abe, hitting him. Injured, Abe tries to escape on foot and contacts his brother Mateo to pick him up by car. But on the way, a car accidentally hits Abe, causing him to fall on the road.
Mateo chooses not to help his brother as there are policemen present at the scene. Abe is then taken to the hospital to be saved. Meanwhile, two detectives, Regina Lewis and Eric Masterson, are assigned to investigate the murder of Joshua Gregory.
On the other hand, Mateo kidnaps Paul’s pregnant wife Taryn from their home and forces Paul to break Abe out of the hospital or else harm Taryn. Fearing for his wife’s safety, Paul reluctantly helps Mateo and they manage to escape police surveillance. Abe reveals to Paul that he has a flash drive containing data on corrupt cops, which he intended to give to Gregory. However, with Gregory dead, Abe is being framed for his murder.
As the story progresses, Abe and Paul try to meet Mateo and Taryn at a bus station, but they are ambushed by a group of undercover police officers. Abe and Paul manage to escape on foot, while Mateo and Taryn escape by car. Abe takes Paul to meet a gangster named Cheetah, who works for Big D, a powerful criminal. As Abe gets into a fight with Cheetah, Paul discreetly sends a message to Lewis about their location.
When Lewis and Masterson arrived at the scene, they arrest Abe and try to save Paul. However, Masterson realizes that Lewis is one of the corrupt cops on the flash drive. As her cover is blown, Lewis kills Masterson and orders her henchman Jones to kill Abe and Paul while she sets off to delay the backup.
Jones is unable to kill Abe, and Paul shoots him dead. Abe and Paul then escape again and find Mateo, who is now severely injured after being attacked by one of Lewis’s henchmen. Taryn is still being held hostage by Lewis, and Paul is in panic mode.
In conclusion, Point Blank tells the story of how two ordinary men from different backgrounds team up to take down corrupt cops and reveal their sinister plots. The movie is filled with action and suspense, with a well-written plot and complex characters that keep the viewers engaged until the end.
