Men in Black is a science fiction action-comedy series that everybody loves. Its iconic characters, Agent J and K have been in our minds since the first movie came out. Although the franchise hasn’t been productive enough with only one movie per decade, many of us hoped for more sequels in the future. However, many people were disappointed with the quality of the second movie. Thus, it took ten years for the third installment, Men in Black 3, to finally hit the big screen.
In this chapter, Agent K’s arch-enemy from the past, Boris the Animal, is back to change the fate of the earth. Boris, the last surviving member of the Boglodite race, seeks revenge on Agent K, who shot off his left arm and captured him back in 1969. Boris arrived on earth and met Agent J, informing him that Agent K was dead.
At the Men in Black headquarters, Agent J discovers that K not only shot and captured Boris but also used ArcNet to wipe out the entire Boglodite race. ArcNet is a shield that the Boglodite race planned to use to conquer the world. J understands why Boris is seeking revenge on K, and from there, the story unfolds. Boris travels back in time to July 16, 1969, to kill a young Agent K and change the future of the earth. MIB didn’t realize Boris’s presence, but J found out, and he needed to travel back to the same time to prevent Boris from murdering K.
When J arrived in the past, K captured and took him to the headquarters, where K planned to use neutralizer on J. J had to reveal that he came from the future to stop Boris’s evil plan. Finally, J and K teamed up to figure out how Boris intended to execute his plan. They were informed that Andy Warhol, disguised as an MIB agent, was looking for Griffin, the last living member of the Archanan race. Griffin could see the future and predicted that Boris would travel back to the past and head straight to the future.
To stop Boris, they needed to get the ArcNet from his hands, and Griffin offered to help. J and K arrived at Shea Stadium to save Griffin, but young Boris escaped. Meanwhile, the future Boris arrived at the same place as his younger version. K knew that Boris planned to execute his plan by attaching ArcNet to Apollo 11 and making it spread throughout space. Could J, young K, and Griffin prevent Boris and his past self from executing their evil plan?
Time Traveling in Men in Black 3
Unlike the previous franchise, Men in Black 2, where the story felt half-baked and insufficiently mature, Men in Black 3 brought something new to the table with its time-traveling narrative. K activated a device that split time into two and killed himself in the present, which triggered the Boglodite’s attack. J had to convince K that if Boris killed him, the ArcNet wouldn’t defend earth from the Boglodite rule.
Traveling back to 1969 added an exciting new dimension to the Men in Black franchise. Instead of fighting off the usual alien invasion on earth, the characters had to fight a battle in space and even involve a significant historical event, Apollo 11’s launch. The time-traveling concept was integrated into the story seamlessly and created a fresh, exhilarating narrative that impressed audiences worldwide.
Conclusion
Men in Black 3 finally gave fans what they’ve been waiting for: a fresh and exciting story that incorporated time-travel in its narrative. With the help of the time-traveling concept, the film broke new grounds and stayed true to its iconic characters. Will you join J and K on their adventure to stop Boris and save the earth?
