The main character, Lumina, is a mermaid princess who dreams of seeing the world beyond her isolated rock cave. Lumina is not allowed by her aunt, Scylla, to use her magical pearl power, as Scylla is afraid that other sea creatures will learn about Lumina’s abilities and kidnap her for them. Lumina only has one friend, a seahorse named Kuda.

Scylla, who turns out to be a villainous character plotting against Lumina, is asked by Caligo, the son of the kingdom’s security general, to murder King Nereus to give Caligo the throne. However, Scylla cannot bring herself to do it and decides to take care of Lumina instead, raising her like a daughter. Lumina thinks of Scylla as her aunt.

One day, while Lumina is playing with Kuda, a malicious eel named Murray comes and requests Scylla to poison King Nereus. Murray decides to leave an invitation to the Royal Ball, where Fergis, Caligo’s father, will relieve King Nereus of his throne. Lumina, finding the invitation, decides to go and look for Scylla. However, Scylla has left for the palace, and Lumina follows her.
