Jingga dan Senja (2021) is a teenage drama produced by Rapi Films and Screenplay Films. The film is based on a popular novel by Esti Kinasih titled Jingga dalam Elegi. Directed by Kuntz Agus, the film stars Abidzar Al Ghifari, Yoriko Angeline, and Giulio Parengkuan as the main cast. In this film, the chemistry and performance of the three lead actors are commendable, making it a worthwhile watch for teenagers. Nonetheless, the predictable plot and cringe-worthy dialogues may hinder the overall experience.

The story centers on Tari (Yoriko Angeline), a 10th grade student starting her new year at SMA Airlangga. Along with her two best friends, Fio (Keisya Levronka) and Nyoman (Amel Carla), Tari finds herself intrigued by various circumstances around her. One morning, while on her way to school, Tari gets involved in a brawl between students from her school and those from SMA Brawijaya. This event marks the beginning of Tari’s life-changing encounter with two key characters – Ari (Abidzar Al Ghifari), her senior, and Angga (Giulio Parengkuan), the leader of the gang from SMA Brawijaya.

Soon after that incident, Tari and Ari learn about each other’s names. Coincidentally, their names are Jingga Matahari and Matahari Senja, respectively. Ari is known as the leader of the gang at school, and everyone follows his lead. He is also popular among girls despite his stubbornness and rebellious nature. On the other hand, Tari is a simple girl but with strong principles. She becomes the only girl who dares to defy Ari and his rules.

Tari’s life takes a new turn when she starts getting close to Angga. This irks Ari, and he forbids Tari from being with Angga. Meanwhile, Tari finds out that Angga was brutally beaten up by Ari, and her anger towards Ari increases. However, Tari cannot fathom the truth that Angga is using her as his pawn. Consequently, Ari has to kneel down in front of Angga and SMA Brawijaya for Tari’s sake, making Tari realize that Ari’s anger towards Angga might have been justified.

What surprises Tari the most is the revelation that Ari has a twin brother, Ata. The two of them are entirely different, and Tari finds herself falling in love with Ata. At the same time, Ari becomes more possessive and controlling, forbidding Tari from falling in love with Ata. Angga’s opinions about Ata make Tari even more confused, but she finds herself drawn towards Ata’s kind and understanding nature.

Despite having high expectations for this film, some drawbacks pull it down. The plot twists and revelations that should have surprised the audiences feel cliché and predictable. Along with that, the dialogues seem forced and wooden. Moreover, some plot holes hinder the overall experience. However, the remarkable performances from the actors make it an enjoyable watch for teenagers.

In conclusion, Jingga dan Senja (2021) is a film that teenagers can relate to. The performances of the actors have a charm of their own, but the predictable plot and wooden dialogues can be a letdown. However, the overall experience of watching this film lies in experiencing the journey of the characters and how they mature through the course of the film.
