Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths is the 9th movie in the Aoyama Gosho animated series, offering a slightly different storyline than usual. Instead of being set in a building or on land, this time around Conan and his friends find themselves on a luxury cruise ship, which becomes the site of a planned murder.
Not only murder, but kidnapping, bombing, and the sinking of the ship are all part of the story of Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths. Can Conan solve the case aboard the luxurious cruise ship before it sinks and endangers the lives of its passengers?
Synopsis
In the year 2005, Conan and his friends are invited by Sonoko’s family to go on a cruise along with two other families, Grup Suzuki and Grup Yoshiro. The invitation was given to celebrate Ran’s achievements as the champion of prestigious karate competition. The first few days of the trip are filled with fun and partying among the passengers.
One night, Conan and the group meet Kusaka Hironari, a famous scriptwriter who accidentally knocks Conan’s glasses off. Instead of apologizing, Kusaka shows interest and excitement towards Kogoro Mouri, a famous detective who is also on the ship. Kusaka introduces Kogoro to Akiyoshi Minako, the chief designer of the ship. Akiyoshi shares with them the design of the ship and tells them that Hideto Yashiro, who was found dead a few days ago, was the husband of the current company’s president, Takae Yashiro.
The next day, while playing hide and seek, Sonoko is attacked and left unconscious. The terrified team tries to contact the captain but the communication system was down. They then find her locked in the ship’s freezer and luckily save her from hypothermia.
As the story unfolds, we find out that fifteen years ago, a cargo ship named St. Yashiro No. 1, owned by the Yashiro group, sank due to an explosion in the hull. The captain, Okita Takeo, was killed by poison in his coffee. Kaido Wataru, the first officer of the ship, became the prime suspect but was never charged because the evidence was lost with the ship.
The current president of the company, Takae Yashiro, entangled in a series of threats and murders on the ship, wants to find out who is behind these crimes. Stranded on the ship, Conan and the group work together to identify the killer and prevent further tragedies from occurring.
