47 Meters Down tells the story of two sisters, Lisa (Mandy Moore) and Kate (Claire Holt), who are on vacation in Mexico. Lisa is upset and heartbroken after her recent breakup and Kate tries to cheer her up by suggesting a new adventure. They meet two local men who offer to take them shark diving in a rusty cage lowered 47 meters deep into the ocean. At first hesitant, Lisa agrees to have the experience of a lifetime but soon realizes that they are in grave danger.

The Shark Cage

The sisters enter the cage and are lowered into the deep, dark ocean. The rusty cage creaks and groans as it descends deeper and deeper into the ocean. Lisa and Kate are naive about the whole experience, thinking they are just watching from inside the cage. They excitedly take pictures of the impressive great white sharks that swim past them, ignoring the warnings from the captain of the boat, Taylor (Matthew Modine), about the cage’s link to the boat.

The Shark Attack

Suddenly, the frayed cable holding up the shark cage snaps and the two sisters plunge to the bottom of the seabed. They are left stranded in the pitch-black darkness of the ocean, with limited air supply, and the threat of sharks looming nearby. Knowing that they will run out of air soon, Lisa and Kate must make a series of life-threatening decisions to survive. Kate swims to the surface for a radio signal while Lisa stays in the cage to wait for help. But things go from bad to worse when the sisters realize they are not alone in the water. With the clock ticking, the sisters struggle to stay alive in a fight for survival against brutal conditions and terrifying predators.
