Synopsis and Review of Suzume no Tojimari: A Journey to Close the Door
Suzume no Tojimari or simply known as Suzume, is the latest film by Makoto Shinkai. The movie was released in Japan on November 11, 2022, and premiered in Indonesia on March 8, 2023. The story follows a high school girl named Iwato Suzume, who goes on a journey to find a door alongside a young man named Munakata Souta.
The film is a combination of Action, Adventure, Animation, Anime, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi genres, directed by Makoto Shinkai. The movie stars Nanoka Hara, Hokuto Matsumura, Ann Yamane, and Eri Fukatsu.
The plot begins with Suzume dreaming of her childhood and looking for her mother. Later on, she wakes up and prepares to go to school. On her way, she meets a young man who is looking for an abandoned place. The man mentions that he is searching for a door in that place. Suzume remembers an old hot spring ruin around the mountain and decides to go there. At the hot spring, Suzume finds an old door standing in the middle of the ruins.
She opens the door and finds herself in a completely different world. However, she cannot enter the world beyond the door. Suddenly, she stumbles upon a cat statue that suddenly transforms into a real cat, frightening Suzume, who runs away.
During lunchtime, Suzume and her classmates are eating their bentos when they receive an earthquake warning on their phones. Shortly after, a minor earthquake occurs. Suzume sees some red smoke that only she can see, and she runs towards it. The red smoke leads her to the old hot spring she visited earlier.
When she arrives, she sees the young man she met earlier struggling to close the door that is the source of the red smoke. Suzume decides to help him, and after some effort, they finally close the door, lock it, and the red smoke disappears. The young man introduces himself as Munakata Souta.
The rest of the movie takes the audience on a thrilling journey as Suzume and Souta embark on a mission to find and close more doors in different parts of the world. Their journey is fraught with danger, mystery, and supernatural elements. Along the way, Suzume learns about her own past and the hidden secrets of the world beyond the doors.
