Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the popular manga and anime series One Piece, has made a stunning announcement that has left fans reeling and speculating about who the character could be. At the Jump Fiesta 2023 event, Oda revealed that one of the major characters in One Piece will die. However, he did not give any hints as to who that character might be, leaving fans to engage in wild speculation.
This announcement has created a lot of buzz and excitement among One Piece fans, who are eagerly awaiting the next season. While Oda did not attend the event in person, he sent a message that was read out by Mayumi Tanaka, the voice actress for Monkey D Luffy in the anime series. In the message, Oda acknowledged that 2022 was a good year for him, with the Wano arc coming to an end, the success of One Piece: Red, and the popularity of the One Piece card game.
Oda also revealed that after six years in development, One Piece Odyssey will be released next year. He also mentioned that he is planning a stage event, and that the live-action One Piece Hollywood TV series is in production, with the first season already finished but not without difficulties.
Turning towards the One Piece manga, Oda made a major announcement that fans will see a huge clash between two people, but he did not reveal who they are. This segment, according to Oda, will be an epic big fight. Though he hopes that no one dies, he closed his message by saying that fans can expect the best from him next year.
Fans have already started speculating about who the character to die could be. While many names were tossed around during the livestream, Shanks and Trafalgar Law emerged as the top candidates. Trafalgar D. Water Law, the captain of the Heart Pirates, is the main candidate, given the fierce battle he is currently fighting against Blackbeard. This speculation is fueled by the fact that Blackbeard is known to be cunning, strong, and greedy, which makes him a formidable opponent. However, it is still uncertain who will die.
Meanwhile, in the Super Stage One Piece event, attendees were treated to a panel from chapter 1.070, which depicted Luffy punching Lucci with his elongated arm, creating a peanut-shaped effect on Lucci’s stomach. Two other panels showed Luffy in his new form, Gear 5 or Nika mode, moving backward to gain the perfect distance to execute his Gomu Gomu punch.
In the previous chapter, Kizaru is on his way to Egghead Island, which may lead to a huge conflict between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Marines. Oda has been slowly revealing more about the One Piece world through Vegapunk, so fans can expect more revelations and exposition in chapter 1.070. However, fans should not expect Vegapunk to reveal the secret of what One Piece is.
One Piece Chapter 1.070 will be released on Sunday (12/25). Fans of the series can’t wait to see what Oda has in store for them next year.
