Saw 3 is the third installment of the popular horror franchise Saw, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. The movie brings back John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, who is dying of brain cancer. In this film, Jigsaw continues his killing spree with the help of his disciple Amanda Young. Saw 3 also focuses on Jeff Denlon, a grieving father who is forced to play Jigsaw’s deadly games to avenge his son’s death. The movie features a lot of gruesome scenes and was nominated for Best Horror Film at the Saturn Awards and Choice Movie: Horror/Thriller at the Teen Choice Awards.
Synopsis:
The movie starts with detective Allison Kerry, who is still trying to locate her missing colleague, Eric Matthews. She and SWAT officer Daniel Rigg discover a new victim of Jigsaw’s killings, but it turns out to be a man named Troy, not Eric. Allison is then abducted and wakes up in a basement room chained by an iron chain. She is now caught in one of Jigsaw’s traps and must escape to survive. Sadly, she fails, and her death is brutal.
Next, we see Dr. Lynn Denlon being kidnapped by Amanda and taken to Jigsaw, who is lying on his deathbed. Amanda places a trap around Lynn’s neck, forcing her to perform brain surgery on Jigsaw to keep him alive. She must also monitor the other victims who are in Jigsaw’s traps. One of them is Jeff, who was involved in a car accident that killed his son. He is now trapped in an abandoned factory and must go through a series of tests that lead him to the people responsible for his son’s death.
In the first test, Jeff finds a woman named Danica Scott, a witness to his son’s accident who refused to testify in court. She is naked, chained, and freezing in a cold room. She begs Jeff to help her, but he initially refuses due to his anger. However, moved by sympathy, Jeff tries to save her, but it’s too late, and she freezes to death.
In the second test, Jeff encounters Judge Halden, who presided over the hearing for his son’s accident. The judge is chained to a gear lever that could potentially crush him. Jeff manages to save the judge, but a bullet suddenly hits him and kills him instantly.
In the final test, Jeff confronts Timothy, the man who accidentally killed his son. Jeff initially refuses to save him, but he changes his mind when he sees how much pain Timothy is in. Unfortunately, Jeff can’t get to the key in time, and Timothy’s neck breaks, killing him.
Meanwhile, Jigsaw’s brain surgery is successful, and he is saved. He asks Amanda to remove the trap on Lynn’s neck, but she refuses, putting the doctor’s life in danger.
Conclusion:
Saw 3 is a disturbing and grisly horror movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The film delivers twists and turns that will shock and surprise you. Darren Lynn Bousman’s direction and the performances by the cast, including Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Angus Macfadyen, Bahar Soomekh, and Donnie Wahlberg, are incredibly compelling.
