In the latest installment of One Piece, chaos engulfs Egghead Island as two formidable enemies arrive: Gorosei Saturn and Admiral Kizaru. Meanwhile, Monkey D Luffy faces off against the powerful seraphim. Gorosei Saturn loses his mind when he encounters Luffy on Egghead Island, and he leaves the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates beaten and bruised. Another spoiler from One Piece chapter 1085 reveals Shanks’ fate on Elbaf, where the Red Haired Pirates finally manage to obtain the final Road Poneglyph from Kid’s grasp.
Shanks had foreseen the chaos that would unfold on Egghead Island and already knows his destiny as the person who clears the path for Luffy. As Luffy deals with Saturn’s machinations, Shanks must decipher the secret behind the Poneglyph and keep his focus on the ultimate prize – One Piece. With this goal in mind, Shanks travels to Elbaf, where the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates is bound to leave him behind.
To claim One Piece, the ultimate treasure of the pirate king Gol D. Roger, pirates must gather all the Road Poneglyphs scattered throughout the world and decode the encrypted texts that hold the secret to Roger’s treasure. Only Nico Robin is capable of deciphering the ancient text engraved on the Poneglyph blocks. With the final Poneglyph in his hands, Shanks is one step closer to discovering the way to Laugh Tale, the holy land of the pirates.
Despite the fact that Shanks remains a mysterious character, a few key clues suggest that Luffy will be the one to inherit One Piece. In chapter 1054, Shanks declared that his goal is to obtain One Piece and Benn Beckman implies that the time has come to claim it. Although some readers speculate that what Shanks is seeking is none other than Uranus, there are at least 4 factors that point to Luffy.
Shanks and Buggy’s plan to head to Laugh Tale together has yet to materialize, possibly because Shanks is waiting for someone or something. According to two Sea Kings that Oden and Roger overheard on Fish-Man Island, the birth of two figures was foretold – Shirahoshi, who is Poseidon, and possibly Joy Boy, who is none other than Monkey D. Luffy. As revealed by Oda sensei, only characters with the initial “D” will succeed in finding One Piece.
Although it took Roger 14 years to reach Lodestar Island, Luffy is approaching Laugh Tale with relative ease. Given Oden’s last wish to open Wano’s borders, Rayleigh’s efforts to train Luffy, and Shanks’ sudden interest in Elbaf, the fate that awaits Shanks remains to be seen.
In the meantime, Luffy must battle it out with Gorosei Saturn on Egghead Island and prepare for his next challenge in search of One Piece. Will he be the one to claim the ultimate treasure and fulfill the destiny foretold long ago? Only time will tell.
