Plot
White and Black (Gun Atthaphan Phunsawat) are twin brothers who share a special connection- where if one of them is ill, the other one will feel it too. Their parents decide to separate them in hopes of severing their bond, reasoning that the separation might prevent them from hurting each other. White later travels to Russia with his father, while Black resides in Thailand with his mother. Fifteen years later, White returns to Thailand to run for diplomatic candidacy following in his father’s footsteps.
Upon arriving in Thailand, White suddenly feels pain all over his body and faints. He is admitted to a hospital where doctors cannot seem to find anything wrong with him. Later on, Todd (Sing Harit Cheewagaroon), White and Black’s childhood friend, informs him that Black is in a coma due to an attack by some thugs. Todd suggests that Black might have been assaulted by members of his unruly gang. Determined to find out the perpetrators behind his twin brother’s assault, White decides to go undercover, masquerading as Black, to infiltrate the gang and discover the mastermind behind the attack.
As White pretends to be his brother, he becomes increasingly suspicious of the other members of the gang, especially Sean (Off Jumpol Adulkittiporn), Gram (Mond Tanutchai Wijitwongthong), and Yok (First Kanaphan Puitrakul). As he tries to uncover the truth behind his brother’s attack, he learns about the corruption background of the Thai government, the brutal world of Black’s gang, and a lot more, including LGBT+ representation, poverty, and disabilities.
Red Herring Technique
Not Me series seems to use the same formula as a mystery story- – such as the red herring technique- to divert attention away from something important to an unrelated issue, as many of the characters hold many secrets that obscure the real motive of the main story.
Social Awareness Drama
This Thai BL series deals with multiple social and political themes, not usually tackled in BL series. It educates the viewers regarding legal and political terminologies such as “impunity,” “nepotism,” “Rule of Law & Rule by Law,” and much more. It is an action-thriller drama that raises awareness among viewers regarding numerous social issues and ultimately inspires people to stand up for justice.
Conclusion
Not Me is an extraordinary Thai drama with a unique and captivating storyline focusing on the themes of politics and social issues that remain taboo. The use of red herring technique adds another level of complexity to the series, making it even more interesting and compelling to watch. The series educates the audience about various social and legal issues and raises awareness regarding the struggles of the oppressed sections of society.
Not Me is a must-watch for anyone interested in action, romance, thriller, social issues, and political themes all in one package.
