Makoto Shinkai’s Favorite Anime: Dragon Ball

Posted on

Makoto Shinkai, the creator of the anime Suzume no Tojimari, recently surprised manga and anime fans with his opinion on Dragon Ball and One Piece. It turned out that Makoto Shinkai prefers Dragon Ball over Oda Sensei’s series. This revelation was quite surprising since his daughter lent her voice to one of the characters in the latest One Piece film. From his Twitter account @DBSChronicles, Makoto Shinkai also expressed that his favorite character in Dragon Ball is Krilin. Fans of both anime and manga have been discussing the director’s statement, especially those who are proud of having the same taste as him when it comes to Goku and the gang.

On the other hand, it’s not really surprising that Shinkai loves Dragon Ball. Many manga or anime creators from his generation are more familiar with the series and enjoy it, including Oda Sensei himself. Dragon Ball is often considered the pioneer of all shonen manga. As for Shinkai’s favorite character Krilin, many also love the bald-headed martial artist. Krilin’s comedic taste in the manga serialization and his friendship with the formidable Goku make him a well-liked character. As a result, many fans are enthusiastic and have given positive feedback about Krilin as Shinkai’s favorite character, some even hoping for an anime series focused on Krilin to be released in the future.

Oddly enough, Makoto Shinkai’s daughter herself became a seiyuu in the anime One Piece Red, which was released on August 6, 2022, directed by Goro Taniguchi and produced by Toei Animation. Nevertheless, fans can still appreciate Shinkai for showing his love for Dragon Ball and Krilin, two icons that have greatly influenced the world of anime and manga.
