This technique is practiced and taught by demon hunters from generation to generation. The most powerful and primary technique of all is the Breath of the Sun, which was first used by the first demon slayer, Yoriichi Tsugikuni. This technique was later adapted into the Breath of the Fire God by Kanjuro Komado, the father of Tanjiro.

The second breathing technique is the Breath of the Moon and is used by Michikatsu Tsugikuni. He is the older brother of Yoriichi who turned into a demon and is the first moon demon.

Zenitsu uses the Breath of Thunder, which is one of the five main breathing techniques, a mimicry of the Breath of Thunder technique. The Breath of Wind technique, like the Breath of Thunder technique, is also one of the main breathing techniques, a mimicry of the Breath of Sun. The user of this technique is Sanemi Shinazugawa.

The Breath of Water technique is also a branch of the Breath of Sun. This breathing technique was taught by Urokodaki to his students, such as Giyu Tomioka, Kamado Tanjiro, Sabito, and Makomo. Tanjiro initially used this technique before he used the Breath of Sun technique.
