Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne has broken the Premier League assist record this season. After Manchester City’s 4-1 away victory over Southampton on Saturday, April 8, 2023, De Bruyne has now recorded 13 assists in the Premier League this season. His assists have a two-goal difference from the next player on the list, Frank Lampard. Additionally, De Bruyne scored his 99th goal for Manchester City in the same game against Liverpool, with a final score of 4-1. He has now reached 100 assists after delivering a perfect cross to Erling Haaland, who scored with a header in the first half. Haaland also scored two other goals of the game, at the 45th and 68th minute. Jack Grealish scored the third goal for Manchester City while Julian Alvarez scored the fourth in the 75th minute.

De Bruyne’s latest assist makes him the fastest player in Premier League history to provide 100 assists, achieving it in 237 appearances. He surpassed Cesc Fabregas’s record by 56 matches to become the top Premier League assist maker in history, with a two-point lead over Frank Lampard, who ranks fourth on the list. Wayne Rooney is third on the list with 103 assists, while Fabregas (111) and Ryan Giggs (162) occupy the top two positions. It is widely believed that De Bruyne is one of the greatest players of his generation and has been Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s top choice for years, having won four top titles in five seasons.

Manchester City is still in pursuit of Arsenal to defend their Premier League title. The victory against Southampton strengthens their position, making them only five points behind the Gunners, who will face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, April 9, 2023. De Bruyne expressed his pride in achieving 100 Premier League assists, saying, “Of course, I’m proud. It’s something you can’t let pass by. I’m trying to create as much as possible. I could make another two or three goals. If they score, I get the assist,” he said.

While acknowledging that his creativity is what he is known for, De Bruyne believes he still has room for improvement and wants to strive for more. “I don’t compare myself (to Fabregas). Cesc is an incredible footballer. I don’t compare myself to anyone else. I just try and do the best I can,” he said, according to our site.com from Sports Mole on Sunday, April 9, 2023.
