Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently commented that he is not afraid of being sacked, despite several Premier League coaches losing their jobs. This week, Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter were fired from their roles at Leicester City and Chelsea, respectively. Rodgers left on mutual terms, while Potter was dismissed. Potter became the 13th Premier League coach to lose his job, and Tottenham Hotspur also parted ways with Antonio Conte during the international break.
Before Conte left Spurs, Julian Nagelsmann was surprisingly fired by Bayern Munich. The German club then appointed Thomas Tuchel during a managerial overhaul that had never happened before. The drop in performance by Liverpool during the 2022-2023 season has led to suggestions that Klopp might be fired from his position, regardless of his contract extension with The Reds until 2026.
Klopp admitted that Liverpool’s owners might view his situation differently if it was his first year at the club. However, he said he was not afraid to be fired. “I’m not afraid (to be fired). The German coach is aware that he needs to turn Liverpool’s fortunes around. He said they cannot play at the same pace all the time. Klopp’s team lost 4-1 to Manchester City, their third defeat after losses to Real Madrid and Bournemouth before the international break. Liverpool will have five injured players missing as they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The five players are Stefan Bajcetic, Calvin Ramsay, Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantara, and Naby Keita. Klopp will make changes by starting Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez, and Kostas Tsimikas.
“We gave the players as much time as possible to recover, but there will definitely be changes. Right now, I don’t know who I can play,” Klopp said.
