Jigokuraku episode 8 will only be available in Indonesia through Netflix tomorrow, Monday (22/5). However, in Japan, the episode already aired on Saturday (20/5). Titled “Student and Teacher,” fans are now required to wait until early June for the next installment. Many fans expressed their disappointment with the delay, particularly since the series is one of their favorites to spend their weekend evenings with. Nonetheless, some had a positive reaction and offered support to MAPPA, the studio that produced the anime adaptation.
Episode 8 tells the backstory of Tenza. It reveals his meeting and apprenticeship under Yamada Asaemon Shion. Then, the story shifts to the present where Tenza and Nurugai find themselves facing an enigmatic figure with supernatural healing abilities. Despite their fierce battle, the couple is unable to defeat the creature. The monster severely injures Tenza, and Shion has to intervene, allowing the duo to escape.
During the intense fight, the episode goes back into the past where Tenza chats with Yamada Asaemon Eizen about Shion. This leads to him understanding Shion’s backstory and inspires him to learn from him. In the present, Tenza tries to persuade Shion and Nurugai to flee due to their disadvantageous position but is unable to do so because of his wounds. In the end, Shion takes Nurugai with him and abandons Tenza. The episode concludes with a flashback in which Tenza accepts Shion as his master.
