Synopsis
The story unfolds with the appearance of a mutant virus that exhibits symptoms in just five minutes, especially in low-pressure environments. The virus causes anyone infected to exhibit animal-like behavior, making it challenging to secure quarantine facilities. In the United States, the virus has infected 150,000 individuals, claiming 30,000 lives. Most of those infected are military personnel returning from Korea. North Korea is on the brink of destruction as 8.5 million of its citizens have been infected. On the other hand, South Korea has been declared a virus-free zone with only around 300 infected individuals. Unfortunately, the death toll is incredibly high, as only one person among the hundreds has recovered. The virus is known as DMZ because it was first detected in the Korean Demilitarized Zone, but its cause is still unknown.
Dr. Jung Byeong Ho has successfully cured his daughter, Jung Ha Na, of DMZ virus. Unfortunately, Dr. Jung and his daughter disappeared while on their way to mass-produce the antibody. He is now the most sought-after person by many parties. Among them, a group of CIA agents is seen approaching a young man. The young man is known to have kidnapped Dr. Jung, but he strangely does not remember anything. Carter then receives an order from another party that speaks directly into his ear. They ask him to undertake a risky mission. If the young man refuses, the bomb that is planted in his body will explode.
After successfully escaping the CIA’s pursuit, Carter meets with the party that gave him the mission. They are Choi Yu Jin, a BIN agent who handles strategic relations with the North, and Han Jung Hee, from the North Korean Foreign Ministry. North and South are known to be working together to develop a vaccine for DMZ virus. Dr. Jung and Jung Ha Na were taken to the North to create the vaccine. However, due to disturbances in the process, Ha Na was taken to the Sinuiju Research Center.
Unfortunately, on the way, Ha Na was kidnapped by an agent from A9, a secret CIA organization. Carter’s mission is to find and save Ha Na, then take the little girl to the North. According to Han Jung Hee, this mission is carried out by Carter himself. Carter is a CIA agent from South Korea who poses as a reporter and enters the North. He becomes a hero for the North against the South. However, the North Korean government suspects Carter as an American spy.
They then assign a woman to spy on him, and Carter falls in love with her. They get married and have a daughter who is currently infected with the DMZ virus. They mentioned that Carter’s wife died from the virus, so if he wants his daughter to survive, he must save Ha Na first. For this mission, Carter only needs to follow Han Jung Hee’s instructions through the listening device implanted in his ear. The man has to hurry because those infected with the virus can only last an average of 13 days, and his daughter has already been infected for 13 days.
Using the tools and weapons provided, Carter begins his search for Ha Na. This task is not easy as he has to compete with the CIA. When he finally gets Ha Na, Carter is stopped by a group of CIA agents. They look annoyed because Carter is disrupting their work.
