Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4: The Story Behind the Armed Detective Agency’s Founding
Bungo Stray Dogs anime series opens its Season 4 with the backstory of the Armed Detective Agency’s establishment. Fukuzawa Yukichi, the head of the Armed Detective Agency, never thought of establishing a detective agency. However, he accidentally meets Ranpo Edogawa, a genius child who has no direction in life. Fukuzawa is impressed by Ranpo’s intelligence, which he used to analyze murder cases with ease. Ranpo’s genius disturbs Fukuzawa, and he briefly doubts him.
Later, Fukuzawa challenges Ranpo to guess his past only by looking at his appearance. To Fukuzawa’s surprise, all of Ranpo’s guesses about him are accurate. This makes him sick, so he decides to distance himself from the sword until he meets Ranpo.
The meeting between Fukuzawa and Ranpo is destiny. With Ranpo’s intelligence, Fukuzawa finally thinks of establishing a detective agency with a special ability business license. On the other hand, Ranpo, as a genius child, has very little experience and needs a mentor. He is not skilled in combat. Thus, Fukuzawa and Ranpo complement each other.
Basically, Ranpo is purely a genius child and not a person with a special ability. But to convince Ranpo, Fukuzawa tells him that he is a child with a special ability. Moreover, Fukuzawa gives Ranpo a pair of glasses that do not have any ability. However, to make it easier for Ranpo, who thinks complicatedly, Fukuzawa tells him that the glasses can enhance his abilities and make him the greatest detective who can control his abilities when he wears them.
During the time when Fukuzawa gave Ranpo his first case, there was a moment when Ranpo was kidnapped shortly after revealing a murder case involving an actor. At that moment, Fukuzawa realized that Ranpo may be the most genius child, but he is not good at fighting and thus, needs someone to protect him. For him, a detective must be armed. Since then, Fukuzawa decided always to protect him.
