Ghost Writer 2 (2022) is the long-awaited sequel of its predecessor’s top-rated horror-comedy movie. Starring Tatjana Saphira, Deva Mahenra, and Endy Arfian, the sequel offers a fresh perspective, as Starvision Plus brings in Muhadkly Acho, a renowned comedian, as the director.

Although this is Muhadkly Acho’s debut as a director, he remarkably provides a well-structured film that will leave the audience laughing, thanks to the smooth flow of his script. Despite the movie’s success, there are a few notable differences when compared to its predecessor, notably about the Ghost Writer.

The Ghost Writer who assists Naya is subtly presented, unlike in the first movie. Meanwhile, Naya is now a famous horror writer, publishing bestselling books. However, the admiration of her fans fails to make her comfortable, especially when people mistake her for a paranormal being. Naya feels frustrated as forced by Bu Broto and Mas Alvin to write ghost stories.

Amidst her problems, Naya convinces Mas Alvin to let her participate in an anthology project by her favourite author. Unfortunately, a tragic accident quickly made her fiancé Vino turn into a wandering ghost. Naya discovers a necklace that allows her to communicate with Vino face to face.

Vino offers to become Naya’s Ghost Writer from the afterlife, but their happiness is short-lived. The couple’s joy is cut short by the appearance of the malevolent ghost of Siti, a die-hard Vino fan who abandoned her daughter to work for him. Siti met a gruesome death while trying to save herself from a man who tries to sell her organs.

Vino resurrected as a ghost feels guilty for not being able to save Siti and requests Naya’s help to find Siti’s daughter in Lampung. They embark on a journey, but the search proves fruitless. Siti’s anger reaches its boiling point as they return to Jakarta without any results. She will not allow anyone to leave until they find Siti’s daughter.

Overall, Muhadkly Acho’s debut as a director and an actor in Ghost Writer 2 deserves applause. The film is a perfect blend of comedy and horror that will leave the audience on the edge of their seat. With an outstanding cast, an exceptional storyline, and a perfect combination of comedy and tragedy, Ghost Writer 2 (2022) is a must-watch.
