As a 24-year-old female college student, I find myself captivated by the latest chapter of One Piece, 1087. Finally, the mystery behind the enigmatic Holy Knight leader’s identity is revealed, and it turns out to be connected to none other than the great pirate Shanks. However, instead of being his twin brother, the Holy Knight leader is Shanks’s father, Saint Garling Figarland.
The chapter initially teased viewers by featuring a silhouette of the leader, which resembled Shanks’s appearance. However, in chapter 1087, Oda confirms that the leader is, in fact, Saint Garling Figarland, who shares the same bloodline as Shanks. Though Shanks is a Tenryuubito, he hails from the Figarland family.
Saint Garling Figarland is portrayed wearing a black set of clothes and carrying a sword that looks eerily similar to Shanks’s Gryphon blade. What’s more, he has a distinctive feature, a long beard and hair that forms a crescent moon shape. Oda also reveals that Saint Garling Figarland was previously the ruler of God Valley, where Roger and Garp fought and defeated Rocks D Xebec’s group.
During this battle, Rocks’ group sought to kill all the Tenryuubito on the island. After the conflict ended, Shanks found himself among the spoils of war. Roger discovered him while searching for treasure on the island, and it is presumed that he adopted the child, effectively raising him as his own. Based on the clues shared with us in 1087, it can be deduced that Shanks is likely the biological son of Saint Garling Figarland.
As a dedicated fan of One Piece, the reveal of Saint Garling Figarland’s identity is exhilarating, and I am eager to see which new secrets will be exposed in the coming chapters. One can only imagine the scenarios that await us as we dive deeper into the mythical universe that is One Piece.
